Take a Break!
Arduino-based interactive shelf.
“Take a Break!” is an Arduino-based interactive shelf that encourages users to place items related to their hobbies. The shelf will respond differently depending on the frequency of user interactions to draw users' attention from work and persuade users to relax appropriately.
Concept
I aim to design a 'lively' shelf that holds items related to users' interests and hobbies, gently reminding them to prioritize their well-being. This solution intends to encourage users to take a break, increase their relaxation frequency, and strike a balance between work and rest, ultimately reducing their pressures and hesitation about have a good relax.
A "lively" shelf
Use a gentle reminder to remind user take a break?
Distract user's attention from time to time?
-
People hesitate to have a break when they should
-
Use product to offer user an "invitation" of rest
-
Give life to product, create an emotional connection
-
Distract user, rather than command and to-do list
Structure exploration.
I hope to design an electric device/shelf which can mildly remind the users to go back with their hobbies/joys in a visible signal, such as shape change rather than a voice alarm, offering "a suggestion" or "distraction" rather than "a task".
Ideation
A zoetic shelf
The six sheets open and close sequen-tially, showing a wa-vy dynamic as a reminder.
Frequency record
The pressure sensor under the platform of the shelf recording the condition of the stuff removal from the platform, by which to detect the frequency of the user's interaction with it.
Say hello
The sensor will detect the user when he/she approach or passing by the product, and the product will open and close the six sheets repeatedly, giving him/her a sense of "waving" and "greeting", attracting the user's attention.
Interaction design
Product with emotion.
Shelf can records how often the user interacts with it and makes several ways of reminding by different frequency, mak-ing the product more lifelike.
